Hi everyone,

Hope you’re doing good!

In my last blog post I wrote about an issue with ACFS modules after upgrading OS to RHEL 8.8.

Well, if you read my blog post, you know that if you are running up to 19.19, 19.18 or 19.17, you must apply the patch 35273104 on Oracle Grid Infrastructure in order to add the support for RHEL 8.8. You also will read in my blog post that the patch 35273104 is already included on RU’s 19.20, 19.21 and 19.22.

Also, in my last blog post I mentioned that the client is using RU 19.21, so they were not supposed to got any issues while upgrading to RHEL 8.8.

You can read my last blog post here:

ACFS-9459: ADVM/ACFS is not supported on this OS version: ‘4.18.0-477.27.1.el8_8.x86_64 after upgrade to RHEL/OEL 8.8

Well, that’s true, but guess what happened? Linux team upgraded the DEV environment to RHEL 8.9 and this was not tested in the POC environment. 🙂

So, after they ran the script $GRID_HOME/crs/install/rootcrs.sh -updateosfiles, they faced the following issue:

ACFS-9462: The /oracle/app/193/grid/usm/install/Oracle/EL8/x86_64/4.18.0-477/4.18.0-477-x86_64/bin/oracleacfs-4.18.0-477.el8.x86_64.rpm RPM is not compatible with kernel kernel-core-4.18.0-513.11.1.el8_9.x86_64.

ACFS-9466: *********************** SYMBOLS SUMMARY ***********************

ACFS-9465: Kernel: ‘kernel-core-4.18.0-513.11.1.el8_9.x86_64’, RPM: ‘/oracle/app/193/grid/usm/install/Oracle/EL8/x86_64/4.18.0-477/4.18.0-477-x86_64/bin/oracleacfs-4.18.0-477.el8.x86_64.rpm’

ACFS-9464: Symbol ARRAY(0x1524530).

ACFS-9459: ADVM/ACFS is not supported on this OS version: ‘4.18.0-513.11.1.el8_9.x86_64’

Well, on this case, we must check if there is some patch available for ACFS when running on RHEL/OEL 8.9.

Again, fortunately, there is a Support document note mentioned about the issue. OK, the note mention about AFD, but same applies for ACFS:

AFD For RHEL 8.9 – CRS-5059: The operating system version is not supported by Oracle ASM Filter Driver. (Doc ID 2997861.1)

On this scenario, we must apply the patch 35988503.

Description of the patch:

If you are running on 19c, please note that this patch is available only as an one-off patch and you can only apply this one-off patch if you are running in the following RU’s:

  • Oracle 19.21;
  • Oracle 19.22.

As per note ACFS and AFD Support On OS Platforms (Certification Matrix). (Doc ID 1369107.1), the bug fix mentioned above is expected to be added to RU 19.23 (see below screenshot):

So, the only solution you have as of now (March/25/2024) is applying the ACFS/AFD patch mentioned above.

Hope it helps!
